it’s a digital world, baby.

just a little but significant observation i made last night on the way home… the response got me thinking hard.

true enough, i actually remember being highly annoyed by ben’s (then) “newfound companion”, the blackberry, even though i had one too, i hadn’t activated the bb plan until he did.

texting becomes “free”, the more you use bbm and whatsapp to communicate, the more worthwhile your mobile plan pans out to be. it’s like being on msn perpetually, you don’t even have to sign in and out, it’s too easy.

so i read jeremy’s comments, and the sheer thought of what he said started to manifest into a fear. seriously, we’re texting all the time, over time we grow more attached to the people we text as compared to the ones next to us. *guilty. i have a tendency to leave my phone on the table, text during meals cos my friends are always having a convo. but we get so caught up, we hardly think about the effects it has on our relationships… sigh.

i mean, i’ve seen tons of couples on public transportation, each playing games on their phones, does quality time not matter to anyone anymore? are our phones better sources of company that override heart to heart talks with our partners about how the day went by? is topping our top score and unlocking a new virtual badge all we care about?

have we really fallen victim to technology? would we really be nothing without it? not just instant messaging, with things like twitter, foursquare, location tagging features, are we letting technological advancements control and ruin our relationships?

….a penny for your thoughts everyone

mother india 21st century remix feat. dj tigerstyle

it’s close to 3am now, but i have to do a post about this! thursday was nothing less than hectic. around 4, i got a text from ben asking me if i wanted to go see mother india at 9pm. i just left home for the post office and was really hesitant about making the trip home to change and head out again, amidst a heavy work load… i’m glad i did! it was awesome! now, the reason why i’m blogging about this now even tho i’m falling asleep is cos they’re only doing 2 shows, tonight being the last! so for those of you who are up for something really mind blowing, do consider this for friday night plans (the tickets are going fast tho!)

photography and videography weren’t allowed, but this should give you a rough idea of what it’s like…

for 45 minutes, i was in absolute awe. i finally believed there’s more to indian movies than just running and chasing each other around trees. i’d love to watch the entire length of “mother india”. i’m quite sure i will cry! i still can’t forget the part where the kids were dancing, and guess what music was being used for that segment? DRUM & BASS!

someone got STAR STRUCK!

ben with dj tigerstyle, his favourite turntablist!

i would have loved a photo with him too but i didn’t wanna be a groupie… :/ nahhhh! i didn’t wanna keep him from his food! :P

if you’re interested, do call sistic at 63485555 to enquire about ticket availability. you can also find out more about the event on the singapore arts festivals website.

dj tigerstyle will be doing a half hour showcase after the mother india show, so if you wanna see what it’s like to work  three turntables, two mixers, an MPC & CD deck, you have to go check him out!

i guess i should really go crash, it’s my last day of being 25. at midnight, i turn 26… i’m a really big girl now :/

lunch.

back to work. XOXO

zoo rave!

warning : (relatively) high photo content!

this was like two weeks ago when butter turned 5. buttttt! better late than never, right? :P it was animals galore! mimi was a kitty cat, i was a panda, ed was a monkey, and jones was a runaway bunny that got drunk at some bar and never quite made it to the animalistic dance floor. sigh!

i would love to have that tiger in my room to scare away all the creepies.. have you noticed the skirt yet? that’s the one i stamped myself! turned out pretty cool huh? teehee! ed made carrot cupcakes and they were yummmmmmmmayyyy! oh philly cream cheese how i love you.

we came up with a new “animal breed”, BUNKEY. bunny + monkey. which reminds me, i still haven’t gotten my bunny ears back from jones! :(

the papa pandas, bobby, ritz and me!  i love their furrrrrrry tummies!

nicole came later… she was a zoo keeper! i don’t know what Q was tho… hahaha! my panda head got stolen from my head half the night… *pouts

can you spot the funny in the photo top left? for some odd reason we were doing the exact same thing! talk about weird!

new addition to my friend’s list! that’s jervis in black. he suddenly said to me, “you know my sister! she was your classmate!” yes, the world is small, and i can only imagine how much smaller it can get. like how i can run into 3 exes in one night in the same place… (and no, it’s not cos i’ve dated too many guys!)

okay i think that’s quite enough photos for now. i am going to bed! (yes, i actually made the painful decision and stayed in tonight to catch up with my backlog of work… work tops partying in terms of priorities!) gooooodnight!

ginvera’s green tea nude cover bb cream & aqua whitening cream

hey girls! i’m back with another product review!

(mmm okay, make that two.)

i’ve been using ginvera’s aqua whitening cream with oil control the entire past week and i must say, it’s a winner! after cleansing and toning, it creates the perfect makeup base and does a pretty good job at controlling sebum levels throughout the day despite our crazy weather.

this cream is enriched with green tea essence, thanaka extracts and biogel and provides the much needed uv protection. apart from oil control, it also lightens spots, acne marks and prevents new pimples from forming. don’t be fooled by it’s appearance as a thick cream! i love how quickly it gets absorbed into my skin, and it’s not greasy at all. perfect for oily/combination skin types. the scent is light and very pleasant. *thumbs up!

i’ll probably have to use this for a longer time for the results to show but i’m really happy with the hydration levels. get ready to say hello to clearer, more radiant skin!

nexttttttt up!

past bb creams i’ve tried tend to be really thick, hard to blend and somewhat dull so i was really surprised to find that ginvera’s green tea nude cover bb cream has a relatively “runny” consistency.

it’s scent is similar to the cream, actually reminds me of the ralph lauren fragrance i used to use. the bb cream blends in easily to create a more even skin tone. the coverage however is pretty sheer, so i wouldn’t count on it to conceal blemishes and acne scars, but it does to it’s job in keeping skin hydrated all day without clogging. plus points for spf 30/pa++! it also helps reduce the formation of lines. (prevention is always better than cure!)

see, you can’t really tell there’s anything on my hand, can you? :)

the finish that the cream creates is natural and matte. it’s actually more like a tinted moisturiser, i’d definitely choose this over other bb creams that go on too thick, those tend to create an obvious layer on top of your skin. this is great for girls with relatively flawless skin that doesn’t require much concealing. it creates a natural, radiant look.

don’t just take my word for it and make a dash for the store, you can sample these two products before you decide if it will work for your skin! (click on the image below!)

Kokon To Zai @ The Butter Factory 19th May

“KTZ comes from Kokon To Zai, which loosely translates as ‘from here to then’. It’s the journey, be it style or fashion. It should be the transgression or movement of the wearer’s feelings and ideas… Not the other way round.”

it is, tonight. featuring Sasha of KTZ and Dave Does.

i’m excited beyond words to have been selected to be part of KTZ’s “strut crew”! i wish i could give you all a sneak of the A/W collection that you’ll see being shown but… we weren’t allowed to take photos… but here are some teasers!

l

the event begins at 930pm and ends at 1am. for more information, check out the event page on facebook here.

i’m gonna crash now, so see you all tonight! xoxo

The Style Scouts Finals

it’s been a tiring past week to say the least. running around like a stylist trying to put together an outfit, to gathering votes and preparing for the actual day… i’m glad to say, it’s finally over. it’s been a great experience, and i’ve found many new friends amongst the 14 finalists. the photos from my camera aren’t great so i’ll wait for the official photos to be released! for now tho… some of the instant shots we took that night, courtesy of baicapture.

ed, jones, mimi, jervis, me and my newest friend, clara

i stole a couple of shots from Jolyn’s album…

jolyn // cheryl // me // hui yi

f3′s new style scouts! allen, hui yi, jolyn & shane

shane is really adorable, he’s like potentially singapore’s bryan boy! the four of them really earned the win. congrats guys! will be looking forward to reading your fashion scoops over the next 6 months! :)

and here’s a couple from my camera. i don’t know why the colors came out so warm… i must have forgotten to switch the settings. pfffffttt…

left : me with my mannequin! simplest outfit out of the 14 but what i said still stands, you don’t need to overdress to impress.

right : i really love this photo mimi took. i look taller and my legs look skinny! the way i wish they were! lol!

right :  james bent & me

James was one of the judges that night, one of the nicest judges i’ve ever come across i must say, very candid and non-judgemental. okay that sounded a tad ironic.. check out his  street-style photography blog http://lamodeoutre.com

mimi rawking the cataracs shades that i made… they did attract quite abit of attention. altho i still think they need more bling bling! and more crazies!

we think jervis looks like guy smiley… (clara started it tho… and jervis is gonna murder me if he finds out this is on my blog) seriously, the resemblance is uncanny don’t you think? and ed is…. ZORNINJAK! (zorro + ninja + rojak) reminds me of the teenage mutant ninja turtles… :/

tuesday, it came and went… soon it’ll be midweek, and then the weekend. somehow time is passing way too quickly. i can’t keep up…

Pan Fried Fries Tossed With Chive Butter, Basil, Garlic Confit And Lemon Juice (via cinnamonsin)

ed’s at it again. (cooking up mouth watering dishes that is…) i love potatoes, and this made me so hungry. i haven’t tried these but they look as if they would beat BFF’s fries hands down! (recipe included!) enjoy! :P

Pan Fried Fries Tossed With Chive Butter, Basil, Garlic Confit And Lemon Juice ED: My hands got itchy and i just had to cook something today. I ransacked my kitchen and found 2 russet potatoes sitting in the basket crying out my name. I found BFF (best friends forever) for them. Butter, chives, basil and garlic. Can never go wrong with those! Squeezed a lemon cheek to freshen and complete this super simple and tasty dish. (; Ingredients 2 Russet Potatoes About 2 tbs Corn Starch or Flour Olive Oil (enough to coat pan) 4 Garl … Read More

i wish this was a choo choo train…

goooooood morning! I’m blogging from my blackberry, on the train for the very first time! trying very hard to keep my balance with the train jerking and everyone swaying, but its really slow to type single-handedly. I really wish this lady next to me would stop bumping into me and flicking her fruity smelling hair in my face.

I’m hungry! (and she just stepped on my toe and flicked her hair at me again. stop already!) I have a blueberry muffin in my bag waiting to be eaten the moment I step out of the station at orchard. and I got powerberries!

it was between this and red bull, decided to go natural. (I can’t figure out how to add media!!!)  15/11 update + photos : the blueberry muffin wasn’t impressive at all. the ones i baked were wayyyyyy more yummy!

two more stops to go! I hope I won’t be late… (she just kicked my toe! this is getting really annoying)

okay I got to go! blueberry muffin time! ♥

we be pimpin’

isn’t he just soooooooo cute? :)

one of my latest “experiments”, inspired by the cataracs, top of the world mv. it’s not as BLING BLING as the original but it’ll do for now… i’ll probably be making a few variations of these so the usual bunch of us can hit butter cataracs-style. orrrr use them for dares… would you walk around town with these on? actually, come to think of it… knowing me, i would! dare me!

(please don’t watch this if you’re underaged, or if your folks are around.)

ahhhhh the style scouts finals is tomorrow. i can’t wait to meet the rest of the finalists… i mean, i’m not really hard up on winning it, (altho that would be like the icing on the cake, which might take some sort of a miracle) i think it’s the experience and what i learn from it that matters… i do know tho that i’m no hardcore fashion blogger. i might be clueless if you throw me a string of designer names but hey! a friend of mine said it best, “you’re unique”.

…afterall, fashion is about being unique, isn’t it? if you could be special, why would you wanna be like everyone else?

i iz grumpy bunny

say hello to my new bunny ears headband (yes i made them and yes i’ll be selling them sooooooon) and panda eyes. i look majorly sleep-deprived. hopefully after this weekend i can convince myself to start sleeping at more sane hours and not at 3 or 4am everyday. sigh! :(

i think i’m developing a love-hate relationship with my life.

Peperoni Pizzeria (via cinnamonsin)

it’s big, it’s yummy, it’s… Peperoni’s 21 inch pizza!

guaranteed to WOW, the 21 inch looks intimidating in size, but is light enough to be enjoyed by the famous five.. i mean, the foodie five. we’re back in full force and ready to devour the world of hungry tummy-satisfying eats!

read more about Peperoni’s Pizzeria in ed’s post on cinnamonsin:

Peperoni Pizzeria ED: After parting ways and left to fend for our own stomachs, alas we are reunited once again. Us mentally corrupted foodies rolled out the map and marked out our next conquest. A cigarette lined with ashes resting steadily on the side of the lips, eyes squinting from the table lamp and hands trembling with hunger for yeast, we placed our mark. Peperoni Pizzerie. Nothing said. We jumped into the Mercedes mobile and Driver Jones sped through on co … Read More

ramen redemption, or not.

okay this is way overdue! it’s so overdue that i had to check my foursquare log-in history to figure out when this was.. cos i was lazy to grab my moleskine. in a week, this post would be a month late. #fail

let’s see what i can remember about the food, it obviously didn’t impress me enough considering i’ve left this draft untouched for so long… the ramen was definitely better than what we had at Watami previously, but still, there must be better ramen out there!

l

the pork was pretty good, but as usual, not enough! and for some reason, mimi had a whole egg in her ramen while jones and i only got half each. so unfair…

the gyozas were pretty good!

oh look the bowl is bigger than my face!

l

i can’t remember what this was called… it’s chicken, & some vege… (duh)

sighhh…. i’m not doing a very good job with this am i? it’s almost 2am…  *feeling the heavy eyelids

i think i should go to bed.. i hope i have a dream that tells me where i can find the best ramen in singapore. if that doesn’t happen, can those of you who have had good ramen please leave me a comment? please, pretty please with tons of cherries on top! :)

experimental kitchen

today i woke up with a mad craving for something that would make me happy… so i went through my list of happy food! pancakes, done that too many times. scrambled eggs, same. and then i thought of something i’ve never gotten down to trying. (okay make that three…)

rosti with gruyere cheese, bacon, poached egg & hollandaise sauce…

yesssss i made everything from scratch! pretty proud of myself i must say, it turned out pretty good for a first try. :D

the weather is so warm these days it’s not even funny. i still feel zombified from the weekend.. got home at 545am on sunday morning after a night of fun at butter, got to bed at 615am and was up at 9am for church! although i pretty much caught up with lost sleep last night, the heat is really not helping! :(

gonna try to catch up with work now that the sun has gone down… although the heat is still pretty much trapped.. xoxo

who stole my cheese?

my first attempt at cheese cookies was a success! these are italian cheese cookies. the original recipe used parmesan cheese but i love gruyere so i used half parmesan & half gruyere. don’t be fooled tho, this is not a regular cheese cookie. take a bite into it and expect the unexpected… rosemary, sun-dried tomatoes & who’d guess, cayenne pepper.

i brought a bunch of these to butter on saturday & those who were there early enough got to try it! i was also very selective about who got to taste test my cookies tho…  and ed gave me a rainbow  star grading! yay! :)

pssstttt : i made rosti today! see it in my next food post!
