More Cosies!

this is a remake of the “dusty pink florals” iphone cosy for Wei Ting. it’s like 99% identical to the original!

and here are more “experiments”…

i reckon guys might actually take to the eyeball one… you think? i actually used the sewing machine for this. otherwise i would have gone insane sewing all those lines on the iris….

i’ve always wanted to do the matryoshka doll! great for the child in all of us… i don’t’ really know the whole significance behind the russian nesting doll, but it’s cute nonetheless!

also made this bunny one for Biyun, it’s supposed  to resemble her favourite stuffed bunny!

what other phone cosy designs would you girls/guys want to see?

Lotsa LOVE!

things that make me a happy bunny….

yesterday, Jeanice sent me this collage for the Guestbook after receiving her purchase. pretty isn’t it? so much effort she put into the whole thing, and she did a pretty detailed blog post too. here are just some of the many photos she took.

CHAT!

here he is! MehBit, and mini Mehbit! that was my “test piece” which i have fallen in love with over the last few weeks of having him around. he’s just so adorable to look at, being so small especially. oh well, they will be separated soon once i send MehBit off to his new home!

i can’t wait for the site to be up! 2 more days! :)

Meet MehBit!

couple weeks back, i was asked to custom-make a plush toy…

his name is MehBit.

he is the official mascot for a youth mental programme, CHAT.

this is him half done. i spent all day trying to figure out how to get him to stand on his own! he finally can!

anyway, if you’re wondering… MehBit is a monster from Planet Ting. Among the Tingerians, he is known to be the master of sound advice. Though he may look nonchalant at times, he actually has a warm heart that cares for human and Tingerians alike.

i’m really glad to be able to be a part of something beneficial. maintaining a healthy state of mind is crucial especially during the growing years… trust me, i’ve been there.

( click here to find out more and be a fan on facebook! )

will update more about MehBit soon! have a fab weekend everyone!

Beauty Book : Enlarged Pores

Beauty Book : Your Questions

i just got an email from Siying yesterday, here’s her question :

“previously u recommended quite a few brands of exfoliators on your blog! may i enquire do u still use facial cleansers/foams, together with exfoliators or choose either one to use daily? i have been using both daily and together (not one in the day and the other in the night), and kind of notice my pores getting bigger and bigger :( will it be because i sort of cleanse too much, thus causing the enlarging of pores? :(“

firstly hun, trust me, you’re not the only one who has an issue with enlarged pores. i’ve been having a love-hate relationship with my skin ever since i could remember. (more hate than love really) so i’ll try my best to answer your question.

i did some googling and enlarged pores are caused by TWO main things, age and genetics. some people are born with insanely smooth porcelain skin (Really, it’s so unfair) so if you were born with less than perfect skin, like me, well, don’t start pulling at your hair cos there are ways to work around it!

excessive sun exposure can also cause enlarged pores, cos it thickens the skin, thus making pores look more visible. so if you think this is a possible cause, get a good sunblock!

i don’t think “over-cleansing” causes enlarged pores. i use the ginvera green tea marvel gel on a daily basis like you do. sometimes i use a cleanser before, sometimes after. BUT, there’s one very important step you need to remember!

USE A TONER.

i use The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner.

toners help clean up any traces of impurities left behind from exfoliation and also aids with oil control. 2-3 times a week, i use the Tea Tree Mask after exfoliating, followed by toner and then the rest of the regime.

Neutrogena’s deep cleansing foam does do a pretty good job, i use it myself too! especially when washing off makeup. if your skin allows, i’d recommend using an apricot scrub too. most claim to be gentle enough for daily use. a brand like St Ives is great, but if you don’t want to spend too much, Beauty Formulas has an apricot scrub for less than $5 if i’m not wrong!

another product from The Body Shop that i absolutely love is the Vitamin C skin boost.

it’s a bit pricey at $36.90 for a small bottle, but it works wonders. i use it every night now and also before applying makeup! it gives me a velvety base and make up application is a dream!

if you don’t mind splurging a little, these are also some worthy investments.

they cost $32.90 and $24.90 respectively.

so they say, beauty comes with a price.

if you want to try something different tho, here’s something else i have used and found effective.

Silver Powder from Mario Badescu

it retails for US$12 online, but if i’m not wrong, we should be able to get Mario Badescu products here in Singapore at Sephora stores! (Which i have yet to explore) make sure you avoid sitting in front of a fan when you use this tho, or you will get powder particles flying all over the place and into your eyes!

don’t know if i actually answered your question Siying, so feel free to let me know how else i can help! :)

i’d love to hear from all of you, tell me if you find the entries helpful or interesting.

and if you want me to answer your questions, which can be about anything, relationships, beauty, food, clubbing… leave me comments or send your questions to me at : jeanine@jeaninegabrielle.com i’ll do my best to answer all questions! :)

Wardrobe SOS!

hot date? big party? no matter what the occassion, this has got to be the most frequently asked question among us girls…

“WHAT SHOULD I WEAR???”

well, fret not, cos you can always count on ClubCouture to have something in store for every occassion! from casual frocks and tops to pretty dresses that’ll make you look a million bucks…

so if you find yourself constantly stuck in a wardrobe rut, i hope these humble style tips will help :)

what’s brunch without florals? pair this with heels for a sophisticated chic look. the cute bow adds fun so you look polished but not too formal for an awesome sunday brunch! bring along a pair of pretty slip ons or flip flops if you intend to go on a shopping spree with the girls after, and dress it down with a cardigan to match.

i say bring on the champagne!

Every girl’s wardrobe should have one of these…

The Biker Jacket from ClubCouture $49

i wear mine with bodycon dresses and leggings ALL THE TIME! it’s comfy and effortlessly chic. perfect especially when you’re going to places like Zirca where the air-conditioning is crazy cold!

my favourite fool-proof combination?

tank top + leggings.

this combination has got to be my ultimate favourite! see, even real rockstars like Mae Sta swear by it!

i’m happy in just a white ribbed tank top , black lame leggings and heels, but if you’re worried that the look might be too simple, take it up a notch with these pieces from ClubCouture :

with the lace details running all the way up the sides, there’s no way you’ll go unnoticed! the necklace throws in a splash of boldness! i’ve gotten myself one even tho i make things like these. for $19, it’s definitely a steal! get them before they sell out!

( black lace leggings )

( satin necklace )

i would definitely wear this if i was still in school. but gosh, i’m done with the books! this is one of my favourite dresses at the moment. its fun, flirty, and i totallly love plaid! did you already know that? this dress takes me out with ben, and out on shopping trips.

doesn’t it remind you of a picnic mat? ben, when are you taking me out for a picnic?

well, i hope you girls enjoy this, cos i had tons of fun putting everything together. let’s bid wardrobe ruts farewell! :)

PS : DON’T FORGET TO USE THE CODE “JEANINE15″ AT CHECKOUT!

176 hours and counting!

thanks to those who have helped my cause, Invisible Children, i’ve chalked up quite alot more hours of school fees in the past few days!

and my readers have helped accumulate 66 hours! so together, we’ve chalked up 176 hours of school fees for a Ugandan child! i think we’re doing great! :)

if you haven’t checked out Invisible Children’s site, you should! i just spotted something new in store!

i really want to get this soon before it sells out…

although US$79.95 is really quite alot to pay for a bag, i want to get it cos the proceeds go straight back to Uganda! these are all handmade and the cute thing about it is they come with tags of the name of the person who actually made the bag! and they’ve got videos up on the web to introduce you to the bag maker. it’s a really neat concept….

so… i’m actually hoping to “raise funds” to fund my donations by selling off my stuff. and if anyone’s considering getting me birthday presents, i’d love very much if they are from the Invisible Children store as well. it’ll be nice to know that i got something that helped improve someone else’s life.

( click here to view my destash )

fyi : i’ve actually slashed lots of prices cos i really have way too many things to sell off.

and know that you’ll be helping me help the children in Uganda :)

The Fuzzie Wuzzies!

so, i’ve been practicing my needle felting skills… fyi, i broke all 3 of the needles i bought. thank god the lot of 24 i ordered from USA arrived the day after i broke all of mine.

anyways, meet the FUZZIE WUZZIES!

eyeballs, flowers, hearts, a perpetually surprised blob of gum…

what else should i make? hmmmmmmmmmm…

love them? i’d love to hear what you girls think of these new fuzzie wuzzie rings! :)

Polka Dot Pretty

made this for Leonie today! it’s a tissue pack cosy! when was the last time you saw one of these around? hmmm?

hope you’ll like this babe! :)

I’m doing what i can, are you?

forget bogus “causes” on Facebook, SocialVibe is the real deal.

( click on the above image to start helping )

it makes supporting a cause easy for people like you and me. the best part is, you can help without making monetary contributions. it’s more or less funded by (ad) sponsors, like Sony and Dove. i’ve been meaning to get in on this, and finally had the time to sit down and do it yesterday morning…

my cause? “INVISIBLE CHILDREN.”

i’ve managed to accumulate funds for 72 hours worth of a Ugandan child’s school fees in less than a day. it may not be much, yet, which is why i’m hoping you would help me with it too :)

there are many different causes you can support on SocialVibe, but i chose Invisible Children for many reasons.

you’ll probably understand why if you visit the Invisible Children’s website… there are charities that aim to provide clean water, some that fund research, but a child’s education is vital. especially so in Uganda where the children are forced to fight. even with food and water, a child with no education will never be able to break free of the life they’re forced to live.

you will not believe how much i cried watching footage, so i won’t share those videos yet…  here’s one that’s a little less intense.

i’ll be getting some of these bracelets and probably the bag soon, if anyone else wants to buy them, let me know, i’ll be glad to put together multiple orders, we can all share the shipping costs. all proceeds go directly to helping the families in Uganda.

(click here to see items in Invisible Children’s store)

i’ll be updating more on this topic regularly, so i really hope YOU will jump on the bandwagon with me and do what we can to give these children a more promising future :)

Eye Candy!

for those of you who didn’t make it to Zirca on friday for CLEO’S 50 Most Eligible Bachelors, well, you missed ALOT! as usual, screaming and sheer mayhem… here are just a couple of photos from the night… :)

we’re so proud of Yama, aka Monkey King, who was crowned “Most Street-Smart Bachelor”!

we’ve got a video of him performing Empire State of Mind, check it out on facebook!

Henryk was crowned “Bachelor You Want On Your Lap” (something like that!) well done Henryk! hahaha tho i don’t think you should be on anyone’s lap. all that muscle weight could crush bones!

i’ve known Henryk for like yearssss! way back then he and Shane (his twin) were in the first batch of Seventeen Magazine’s Summer Hunks! and gosh, he sure has built up alot more muscle since then… need proof?

not the most glam photo but well… he can lift me so high it was actually scary. thank god i wasn’t drunk, i would have thrown up after he spun me around a couple times!

and guess who else showed up?

nic and i used to date, but even tho things didn’t work out in the end, we’re still awesome friends! :)

ps : he was one of CLEO’S 50 most eligible bachelors in 2008!

ps : don’t forget to catch nic in the new show, SEVEN DAYS!

(yes that’s why you find him familiar. he’s been on a couple of other shows and tv commercials too. like OCBC.)

managed to catch up with my good ol friend michelle, who’s back from Canada for abit… before she leaves us for LA.

isn’t Yama just so charming? but…. sorry girls, he’s taken! :P love this photo to bits!

i’m sure you’d love to know who took the title? it was Parker Lam! a national swimmer, and get this, he’s only 20!!! and he really is pretty dreamy…

i’ll leave you girls with one last photo of… Chris Peterson! not very clear i know, it’s hard to keep a steady hand when you’re looking at so many hunks! fyi, ben was standing behind me the whole time. imagine what he had to put up with! lol

cute, huh? :)

( click here to see the full album on facebook )

you’ll find the videos on my profile too, including Henryk’s very memorable *cough* LAP DANCE *cough*

goodnight!

Quirky Vintage?

i’m putting a spin on vintage-inspired pieces…

i’m combining all sorts of stuff, including hand drawn pieces, my needle-felted “critters” and other little things… some of them have pretty little vintage rhinestones for a bit of bling!

these for starters!

don’t you think the white filigree bases look like good old doily paper? the eyeball and sunny side up were carefully needle-felted by me! :)

…if you like things that are plain, sweet and very vintage, you’ll love this pretty rose ring!

i’ve put in a vintage rhinestone in the centre… totally loving this one.

and then there’s this other more cheery one! i love the combination of peach and teal… it’s such a “feel good” combination…

will try to get all of these up on the site soon, but meanwhile,

Beauty Book : You’re Blushing!

previously, i was using Maybelline’s mineral blush, but somehow i found the color didn’t last very long on my cheeks. so i just got a box of Powderazzi from Benefit!

the verdict? I LOVE IT!

it’s 3 powders in one box, dallas, hoola and coralista (which is my favourite!) it’s the first time i’m using blushers from Benefit, and i must say i’m impressed. the color stays put for hours! everything fits in a little box with 4 compartments, so that includes a little square to hold the brush seperately unlike most blushers that only allow you to keep the brush on top of the powder. or like Maybelline’s mineral blush, has no space to hold a brush at all! not very smart…

with 3 colors in 1, i can use 1 color or mix and blend to achieve different effects! definitely my favourite cheek colors in a box!

but, these aren’t the only cheek colors i have… i might do those in a seperate post tho.

Oops, I Shopped.

…and Ben’s gonna start banning me from shopping again. he always does!

(but it has never been effective)

so i was supposed to have dinner with friends.. but, somehow my instincts were right again, dinner was cancelled a few hours before. the plan was to go down to taka, pop by the post office and run some errands, but when dinner got cancelled, i got lazy. and then i remembered it was wednesday and the post office here in yishun closes at 8! so i got the mails mailed out, hoping ben would come out to meet me for dinner. i was quite prepared to go down town anyways, but when ben said he was quite stuck in camp… the mood totally sunk. so i decided i was gonna stay in yishun and not venture out…

so i went to northpoint, grabbed a strawberry milk shake from sweet talk to comfort myself and popped into Pet Lovers! it’s pretty fun popping into the store… even when i’m not really buying anything… it’s like i have friends there… haha! wait till they actually see Baileys in person…

next stop? watsons. i bought the new mascara from Maybelline. not sure how good it is, but… we’ll see. i’m gonna throw out all my old mascaras. i hate it when they start getting clumpy, so annoying!

btw, i actually verified some prices when i was there… if you read my beauty book post on exfoliators, here’s a more accurate update. the CURE gel actually costs $42! NOT $30+! and the ginvera one is $16-ish if i remember correctly.

anyway, i still wasn’t quite satisfied. i hate dressing up and heading out for less than an hour… so i walked around and ended up in cotton on. i was actually just looking to buy ONE cardi, i ended up with… FIVE. they were 2 for $30! white, black, grey, a floral one, and i got another on sale for just $10. fyi, the floral one has an original price of $24.95. with a 2 for $30 deal, who could pass on that? i also got a pretty pink shirt dress (seen in the photo above) for just $10 too! gosh it’s so so comfy, now i want every color they have it in. sigh….

that’s the other panda we got the other day by the way, not that i actually used it tho.. i was just messing around. anyhoos, i better get to bed now, to sleep rather… i’m already sitting in bed and my eyes are dying to just close…

ps : on a random note, i kinda like my hair right now, somehow i only like my hair when it’s done up in braids… my fringe has grown out! finally! i’m fighting the urge to chop them. i shouldn’t, right? thoughts anyone?

alright, goodnight!

and expect more new item updates in the day! love love!

…Hooked on Florals?

if you can’t get enough of florals, like me… here are some new additions that might tickle your fancy!

Beauty Book : My Favourite Concealers!

panda eyes, red spots, ugly zits, pimple scars…. oh what would the world be without concealers? i personally will not survive without concealers, really.

over the years i’ve tried countless different brands, but i’ve been using these for over a year, and i have no complains! i’ll probably be sticking to these concealers for a long time to come…

1. lemon aid USD$20 from Benefit

this one is a miracle worker, it instantly brightens up your eyes upon application! you’ll be amazed at how this yellow tone concealer works… i’ve been using a small cake of it from my last Benefit order, and this time around i just had to grab the full size tub! definitely love this!

2. erase paste USD$26 from Benefit

okay, so USD$26 is a little pricey for a concealer, but a little erase paste goes a long way. i got my first tub when i got it as a gift for my birthday last year in may, and i still haven’t exhausted it! it’ll probably last me another month or two, or even more who knows, but i decided to stock up on a new tub since i was ordering in a new tub of boi-ing. it’s a thick, creamy concealer that is super blendable! and it really does an awesome job with concealing those spots.

3. boi-ing USD$18 from Benefit

if you’ve used MAC’s concealers, this one is quite similar. i use this under the eyes to conceal dark circles and any other areas that are of uneven skin tone.

ps : Benefit is currently offering FREE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING for orders totalling more than USD$85, so grab your girlfriends and grab some make up! :)

pps : i’ve just listed this blog on NetworkedBlogs on Facebook and i need 8 more people to verify that i am the author! i know it sounds quite silly, but yup, protocol… please (click here) to help me get verified and also “follow” my blog! much loves!

Beauty Book : Exfoliators

okay, some time ago, Elaine actually emailed me asking me about skin care products i use and i promised her i would answer all her questions in a blog post so everyone else can benefit from the info… okay, it wasn’t some time ago, it was quite awhile back. Elaine, i’m sorry this took so long! to make up for it, i’m gonna do one beauty book post everyday this week, we should cover everything by the end of the week, i hope.

for starters, exfoliators!

everyone must have an exfoliator, MUST! i like these two cos they’re gentle enough to use everyday. but, which one’s better?

to be honest i was totally sold on Cure becos of the advertisements and all the praise it got, i’m down to half a bottle… it works, but it’s a lil pricey at over $30 a bottle… i like the fact that it pumps out of a bottle tho, perfect for those who find it a chore to twist open a tube… (like me)

the Ginvera one is alot more affordable, it claims to remove your blackheads in one rub, but don’t count on it entirely. it does claim to have alot more benefits than Cure tho, but i think they both do a pretty equal exfoliating job… so if you’re not quite ready to spend $30+ on an exfoliator, i’d suggest you try Ginvera’s green tea marvel gel.

now let me go exfoliate and think about tomorrow’s beauty book topic. :)

love, jean
